Artist Statement

“Pauu” is a collaborative project I developed with a dream team full of talented Latinx creatives. The muse of the shoot was my friend Pauu, an extraordinary business woman with two companies under her belt. One being Migo Events, where she brings the community together to celebrate our Latinidad and her clothing brand Pauu Chains. We worked together with our dear friend Michelle, who is an incredible designer and owner of her clothing brand Venganza; she hand creates the most beautiful garments from scratch. Michelle developed the entire gown, head to toe, that Pauu wears throughout the project. The overall theme was about how our cultural backgrounds impact how we carry ourselves in our elegance- from our demeanors to presence. Pauu has a radiant and warming dark feminine energy that I’ve always admired about her. I brought her spirit to imagery by reimagining her back in our homelands and utilizing traditional symbols.
